We Change Lives Through Generosity

We do this by connecting donated funds to outreach initiatives.

Donate

We help generous people make informed financial and estate planning decisions, including charitable giving.

Projects

DoubleUp provides incentive matched funding to help you launch your project.

About Us

Our dream is to inspire generosity in others. Generosity to do good. Generosity to support good.

Donors

Why Do Donors Donate?

Our observation is that God has created within all of us a heart of generosity. Sometimes we just need a little help in channeling that desire into action.

What Can Donors Donate?

Donors can donate through DoubleUp’s partnership with South Saskatchewan Community Foundation. We provide expertise on the gifting of many kinds of commodities and personal belongings, including:

Stocks (Publicly Traded)

Your publicly traded stocks (CDN or USD) or mutual funds can be donated to DoubleUp.  We offer this service now with zero fees into your fund!  Substantial tax advantages exist with greater benefits than just donating cash.

Private Company Shares

The donation of preferred shares could increase your tax benefits of up to 16% over donating cash from dividends.  Even more powerful can be the use of life insurance through your business backing those preferred share donations.

Farm Land

Land can be donated through the Foundation to power your Legacy Fund.  Specifically, with farmland, talk to us today about options in being able to honour your family land forever.

Mineral Rights

You can donate your mineral rights, receive a tax receipt of the market value, and we can hold your mineral rights in honour of your family legacy forever. Mineral rights will be managed and the royalties earned each year go to the families’ funds.

Life Insurance Policies

We can hold life insurance policies donated by individuals to power their legacies after they pass.
Thinking of canceling an old insurance plan? Speak with one of us today to see how easy it is to transfer your old plan to DoubleUp.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Through a CRT, assets such as homes, cars, RRSP, etc. are donated into it, you receive a tax receipt for the market value, and then during your lifetime you can still use those assets.  Once you pass, the assets skip the probate and estate process and are transferred to the Foundation to then honour your life well-lived.

Real Estate

Homes, cottages, rental properties, land and more can all be coordinated through DoubleUp.

Mutual Funds, RRSPs, or RRIFs

The donation of your mutual funds or RRSPs can be coordinated with no fees.  You receive a tax receipt for the full market value.

Monetary Donations

We accept donations of cash, cheque, e-transfer, electronic transfer, or even credit card. While these options are convenient, typically these gifts are the least tax efficient way of donating and we encourage you to explore other options.

Other Assets

Vehicles, works of art, or basically any other asset can be donated to DoubleUp. Give us a call to discuss further and we can chat about options and how we can make the process seamless.

How to Donate

Donating can be a somewhat complex process, depending on what is being donated, and how you intend to donate it. DoubleUp’s Financial Advisor can work with you and your team -- accountant, banker, legal -- to take care of the details, so that you can focus on the things that truly matter. In some cases we can supply forms that simplify the process. We do not charge for this service if you include a donation to DoubleUp.

Call us and we can arrange to chat. We’ll help you clarify your intentions, and review the steps to help you achieve your goals.

Background

The inspiration for DoubleUp was birthed by an anonymous person. This person recognized that an established Regina church needed to re-discover its sense of mission. He/she offered a sum of money to help it re-focus its energies on outreach to others. This money was to be used as matching grants for outreach initiatives. This became known as MIG — the Missions Innovation Grant.

The Purpose of the Fund

The MIG Program stated "The grant is to be used as seed money to stimulate the development of projects which have the potential to support the wellbeing of those in need in areas such as food, health, shelter, education, and the propagation of the faith."

"The grant is also intended to develop a sense of purpose, outreach and mission within the congregation of the church."

How it Worked

Individuals and groups with the church who saw an area of need were invited to submit a project proposal. There were reasonable guidelines governing how the grant funds could be used. A representative of the church acted as the liaison and adjudicator of projects, which went through a committee approval process. Eventually 35 projects were developed. The entire sum of money was dispersed within four years.

What was the Impact?

These projects touched lives locally and indeed around the world. Quite literally lives were saved and restored.
People were invigorated to take action. Some reflected that over the years they had become "bench-warmers". This opportunity and incentive to do good brought them out of their comfortable pews.
Additional funds were raised. Indeed thousands and thousands of dollars, equal to the original donation were brought forward to do good work. In some cases, government matching grants came into play to extend the impact even farther. Many of the participants continued to provide support with dollars, talents and energy in the years following the initial projects.
Small ideas blossomed. The grants acted to inspire ordinary people to do little and big things which changed lives for good.

What Kind of Projects Were Developed?

Projects included working with refugees, housing for cognitively disabled, talking Bibles for blind farmers, Foodgrains Bank projects for crisis relief, leadership and community development locally and in international countries, school outreach expansion, Bible distribution, etc.

How Does DoubleUp Capitalize on This History?

The Innovation Grant proved that a lot can be accomplished by ordinary people with some vision, encouragement, guidance, and a little incentive. People want to do good. Sometimes they simply need prompting and startup resources from a committed partner to do so.

DoubleUp follows the original model closely, with only three differences.

  1. Local donors provide the pool of seed money rather than an anonymous donor. This is done through direct donations from individuals and corporations.
  2. We provide workshops and one-on-one consultation to assist people to develop wise financial, legacy and donation plans.
  3. DoubleUp provides project management workshops and one-on-one consultation to help project managers achieve maximum impact with their ventures. Our Project Application Form requires strategic planning, evaluation and follow-up.

Incentive matching grants, long-term financial development, and project management assistance are all available to startup groups and projects within established charitable organizations.

Quote from the MIG program “When we do things for people, it changes us, it changes us inside. When we serve anyone else, we are serving God.”
